We know all about the artichoke slice, don't we? That massive slab of dough, crust like a boomerang, layered an inch thick with piping hot artichoke dip. Junk food of some peoples' dreams.
I've eaten it, I see the appeal, I wouldn't eat it regularly. My teenage daughter is addicted, so when I went along to feed her habit I looked at the rest of the menu. A crab slice. Odd. Oh well, why not?
The good news: it's lighter than the signature offering. The pizza base, for whatever reason, seems thinner and crisper, and it's obvious on inspection that the crust is much trimmer. I guess it just doesn't have to hold up a Sumo wrestler's weight in topping.
Now I am not here to tell you that this dish features prime, sparkling fresh crab. I think I detected some bits of crab sticks in there. But this is not what one should expect. It's crabby and cheesy in an appealing way, dabbed with ricotta, and I guess it's like another wedding buffet dip used as pizza topping. Much more manageable than the artichoke. It's priced the same ($5 for a slice). While there, we witnessed an individual artichoke slice being cut into four pieces to serve four people, and that seemed quite reasonable. The crab slice is good for one.
