[Pink Pig Time Machine by Wilfrid: February 29, 2016]
You certainly don't a checklist of my maladies, but I had more than one health problem as we approached the end of February, 2006. Not that anything stopped me getting around, and I even managed a dinner at Paul Liebrandt's Gilt.
I started the week at O.G., thathomey neighborhood place.
Foie gras, nori lacquer
Stone Church duck, beets
Cheeses
Chestnut desserts
It makes me melancholy that, ten years on, this best of New York-based chefs is still between restaurants. Maybe 2016 will bring us something new from him.
I limped around Union Square the next day and ate a silly lunch at silly Big Daddy's, that most ersatz of Happy Days-style diners. In the evening, there must have been a fast taxi ride to get us from a concert by Peruvian singer Tania Libertidad at Town Hall to supper at Tides on the Lower East Side: clams, shrimp skewers, a whole fried tilapia, smashed potatos with gremolata; a chocolate pot and passionfruit cake to finish.
Then I was kind of done for the week, and getting tests and x-rays, and cooking Quattro Farms pheasant with roast parsnips at home.
