Yeah, I know, I asked for this one. Dairy Queen--or DQ Grill and Chill as it seems to call itself in these parts--is really a place to order garish frozen desserts and shakes. But hear me out.
I still remember the first time I set foot on North American soil (around 1973, 1974?) and the first hamburger joint I was taken to. It was a Dairy Queen.
I should have left the memory alone. This dry, tasteless thing, from the Staten Island outlet in the ferry terminal, cost less than three dollars. It was worth, I'd say, about $1.50. It was better than, like, a dollar burger you might get served from a microwave. That's about it.
