The truth is, writing about my first dinner at Per Se, and another meal at WD-50, last week, I forgot to mention lunch at Le Bernardin.
It's one of those midtown restaurants which is better in day-time--beautifully lit, sleek, peaceful. And less expensive at lunch than dinner.
After some smoked salmon rillettes as an amuse, together with a glass of the house champagne:
Blackened redfish and Napa cabbage rolls
Skate poached in lobster stock, cardamom sauce
Hazelnut mousseline, crisp wafers
And some Miner Family Viognier with the meal.
And then a quiet week on the food front, and a good thing too. Chopped steak at Sidecar, the hidden restaurant above PJ Clarke. Some duck and some shrimp tacos at home. And then, okay, a lunch at Casa Mono--a good restaurant with a great wine-list, where I've personally found the food a little over-wrought:
Callos con morcilla
Setas con ajo
Esparragos a la plancha
Pan con tomate
Not to mention a late-night supper at Otto with a wine nut. Break open the Tignanello.
