Another very quick business trip to London loomed this week ten years ago.
I prepared for it by eating supper at San Domenico, no longer a local restaurant for me, but still a leading favorite.
I took an overnight flight to Heathrow, checked into the Savoy, where I think my client had a good rate, and went directly to meetings. I took the opportunity of long-distance travel to dive into a neat, vintage, three-volume set of Kristin Lanvransdatter - Sigrid Undset's passionate tale of Viking folk.
Dinner - I suspect with business contacts - at the Savoy Grill Room: a salad of young asparagus followed by a dish from my childhood, smoked haddock with a poached egg.
I hope my bed at the Savoy was comfortable, because I flew home the next day.
Next week: relishing Union Pacific.
