I seem to have put some effort into the dinner back in 2001. It was a wild turkey, brined. We started with some osetra caviar. Then a multitude of sides with the bird.
Cornbread stuffing with crumbled longaniza sausage. Green beans cooked with fresh tomatoes, a recipe from an old French "housewife's" cookbook. Brussel sprouts braised in chicken broth. Sweet potatoes.
I read Jan Gabrial's cheerless memoir of life with her husband Malcolm Lowry - Inside the Volcano - before bed.
Worked off the meal the fllowing day by ploughing through a large Breughel the Elder exhibit at the Met and walking down through Central Park. In the evening, Margaret Colin and Karen Allen in a marital drama at the Gramercy Theater, Speaking in Tongues. Turkey for dinner - surprise.
Truly surprising, just yesterday I leafed through a copy of Novalis's writings and considered re-reading Klingsohr's tale - I didn't. My diary tells me I first read it the same week ten years ago. Maybe 2021.
