[Pink Pig Time Machine by Wilfrid: November 22, 2010]
So there we were, mid-November 2000, unwittingly waiting for the Supreme Court to choose a President for the country, and making plans for Thanksgiving. For myself I had a quiet week leading up to the holiday. There was a quiet tension in the air, however, with a baby due any moment.
Home cooking again, and I must have bought a lot of orange roughy for some reason. I prepared it several different ways, breading and frying it, poaching in a cream and fresh thyme sauce. I made congee too with wind-dried sausage and duck, and cooked a pig's foot to eat with yams.
A modest restaurant outing only. La Petite Auberge, a stroll away on Lexington. Foie gras terrine, boeuf Bourguignon, a bottle of '89 Simard.
Then, gosh - as we say in England - the day before Thanksgiving I became a father.
