Lamb At The Lamb's

All mentions I've seen of the new Lamb's Restaurant so far work in a reference to Mad Men.  Vintage New York glamor.  Nah...

This is actually what Sardi's, also on 44th, would look like if the owners spent some money on it.

Horman's NY Deli Brand: Getting Pickled

The Pink Pig is honored to receive the occasional offer of foodstuffs to sample.  Frequently it's a product I have no use for - jarred pasta sauces, for example - but pickles?  Send 'em over.

I asked the pickle people to choose varieties to represent the brand, and they delivered three kosher dill specimens from the New York Deli line - regular, spicy and mustardy.  There's also a horseradish version.

Back from a trip to the southlands, and you know how holidays sometimes seem to do you no good?  Looks like my body's response to that very pleasant journey was a bout of flu, followed by a bout of arthritis.  Whoop-ee-doo.  Still, we managed a few bites.

Finger Lickin': The Commodore And Hill Country Chicken

Having paid ample attention recently to ground meat in its various forms, time to turn our attention to another humble dish which is currently catching the attention of NYC diners.  Ye olde fried chicken.

 

The Commodore has had all summer to settle into its almost unmarked digs on Metropolitan Avenue, Billyburg.  Hill Country Chicken has been churning out birds on the corner of 25th and Broadway for a matter of days.  Make allowances, then, in what follows.

Quick Bites: Hello Coney Island!

A last-minute, post-end of season scamper to Coney Island, as I hadn't made it down there this summer.  Less has changed than I expected, although Luna Park adds some newer and spiffier rides to the Deno's and Astroland classics.

Chili dogs for breakfast?  Why de hell not?

Quick Bites: Korzo Haus Again

A quick reference back to Korzo Haus, reviewed a month ago, because it has turned out ot be a most useful addition to the neighborhood.  The small number of tables are steadily occupied too.

The brightly named Wunderwurst Platter brings on three contrasting types of grilled sausage.  The smoked sausage (the pink one) was not so interesting; the others, coarse and loose-grained and in different ways pungent, were great.

Savannah to Charleston: Ten Years Ago

I don't really think of myself as someone obsessed with stately homes, but I have to say, the mansions of Savannah captured my heart.  I was partial to some of the Charleston grand homes too - never forgetting that the prosperity represented by these buildings was founded, in part, on slavery.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The man behind the "Wilfrid" mask, Kim Davis, has been taking some time away from pigging over the last couple of months, running up to the launch of a new hyperlocal news website, a collaborative effort between the New York Times and the New York University Arthur L. Carter School of Journalism.
