[A Pig at Large by Wilfrid: November 23, 2009]
I just wanted to wrap up on the subject of the Foodbuzz blogging shindig in SF by linking to just some of the characters I met.
Impossible to link to everyone, but if you want to contemplate the ocean of online food writing out there, dive in here.
First up, bananas and blue cheese...why not? That was a pairing recommended to me by Steve Hill of Gastronomic Guesswork, a seriously droll blog out of Denver which rambles along the cutting edge of home cooking with humor and a refreshing sense of science. You'll find Steve cooking sous vide with Coke or Manzanilla and obsessing about the relative heat of chili peppers. Banana and blue cheese makes perfect sense to me - the only question is whether I call it a quiche or a tart.
Bertolli garlic slicer (one of countless free gifts showered on convention attendees)
Another hello to stylish S.H. "Skiz" Fernando of Rice and Curry, a Sri Lankan cooking and dining site; he expanded my own local knowledge by telling me that the place to eat Sri Lankan food in New York is Staten Island. Moe conveniently, he also pointed me to Sigiri on East 6th Street.
Cool Trudeau measuring cups: the rubber cups can be inverted with a pop, and each side is a different size - so four measures in one.
Widely travelled Rachel of La Fuji Mama authors a blog with its heart in Japan: home cooking in which East meets West. There's more Japanese accented home cooking, and generally hilarious japanese cultural craziness, from Biggie at Lunch in a Box; and you can follow Vancouver-Chinese feeder Sherman Chan at Sherman's Food Adventures.
Whether this whisk by WMF has any special properties I don't know - but it looks neat.
So if we chatted and I didn't mention you, I lost your card somewhere. Forgive me, it was fun, and let's do it again some time. That's SF for now.
