In the past, I have been sufficiently irritated to write a letter in protest at Time Out's habit of reviewing gallery shows the week they close. I remember an intelligently crafted response, which failed to convince me.

Chef A.D. turned slowly, his gaze following the colonnade around the room. The gallery surrounded the dining area on four sides.
It was like the last time. But some how not the same. Almost thoughtlessly, his eyes measured the angles of the room.

Shiny, shiny...shiny white leather. You could slide right...onto the floor.
From the chairs at least which, to my haunches, are impossibly constructed, a fixed, angled cushion rising only halfway up the chair's back. They do look pretty, though.

One moment, it was Le Tableau, a French-ish bistro with middle eastern touches, serving food I found fairly mediocre. Next thing you knew...
It was a construction site. And indeed, the whole look of the former conventional dining room, kitchen in the rear, has been erased. Most important, of course...

So I wake up in Kansas City and take breakfast in a rooftop eatery at the Ritz-Carlton: sausage links, eggs over easy, toast and marmalade. Then I find the talking statue of Winston Churchill across the street, and push buttons to hear his greatest hits.
